Organizing Graphic Objects

Vine offers you a number of capabilities that can help you to organize objects All information in Vine is stored in the server database as named objects of different types. Examples: a company, a person, an event, a sales case. on a map:

  • Moving objects in a stack of objects on the map. Objects form a stack when you place them one on top of another. You can change the position of an object in this stack.

  • Aligning/Distributing objects. You can select and align/distribute several objects on a map.

  • Grouping objects. You can join multiple graphic objects into a single group and then work with it as with a single graphic object.

Changing the Order of Objects in a Stack

Objects form a stack if you place them one on top of each other. You can see it when objects overlap ¾ the top object covers a portion of the objects beneath it.

You can move an object in the stack in two ways:

  • To move the object one layer at a time: right-click the object and choose Bring Forward or Send Backwards from the shortcut menu.

  • To move the object to the top or bottom of the stack: right-click the object and choose Bring to Front or Send to Back from the shortcut menu.

Aligning or Distributing Objects

  • To align objects means to align objects horizontally or vertically by their edges or centers.

  • To distribute objects means to arrange them horizontally or vertically so their edges or centers are at equal distances from each other.

    1. Select the objects you want to align or distribute.

    2. Right-click any of the selected objects and choose Align/Distribute from the shortcut menu. The Align dialog box will appear.

    3. Click the alignment you want. Click OK.

Grouping graphic objects

You can simplify many operations with multiple graphic objects by joining them into a single group and then working with it almost as with any single graphic object. You can align, distribute, move, delete, cut and paste a group of objects as a single unit.

Ways to group graphic objects:

  1. Select the graphic objects you want to group.

  2. Right-click any of the selected objects and choose Group from the shortcut menu.

To ungroup objects: Right-click the group and choose Ungroup from the shortcut menu.

It is not possible to group/ungroup Vine objects on a map. You can group only graphic objects.
